My acer aspire 5110 cpu-temp started to go up to 95 C all the time. The fans were working so I opened it up to check for problems.
The acer has small heat-sinks on the side of the main fan. These were clogged with dust and stuff which I guess prevented air from flowing thru and cooling them off. I simply removed the dust and now I have a nice ~40 C temp on my cpu :)
REMOVE ALL CORDS AND BATTERY!!! This includes ethernet, usb, extra screen, tv out… anything connected to the laptop.
Opening the case was quite straight forward, first remove the hd-cover, i's fixed with two screws, then unscre the big cover above. There are 5 screws that needs to be removed:
------------------------------- | main cover | | | | x | x x | | | | | -------x-------------x--------- x | | | | | | battery | | x | | -------------------------------
To remove the fan simple unscrew the two screws that hold the fan in/place. Then clean the heat-sinks.
DO NOT touch anything with metal or your body, non-cowboys should use a ESD wrist strap. I used paper to clean the heat-sinks. If you don't feel sure about doing this - don't do it.
